The Ellington Historical Society offers educational programming for elementary school-aged children at Ellington Schools.

We can also provide tours of the museum and barn to visitors of all ages with advanced scheduling from April through October. The Nellie McKnight home was built in 1812. The McKnight family purchased it in 1922 and Nellie McKnight lived there until her death in 1981. The museum is a local treasure filled with artifacts from the McKnight family and other Ellington residents.

Our elementary programs include hands-on activities and small group exploration. We focus on how life during Nellie McKnight’s childhood was the same and different than life for a child now.
Discussion may include: museum curating, handling artifacts, farm and town, the 1800s and early 1900s, family life, and occupations then and now.

Educational Program volunteers will provide educators with some materials in advance, as well as communicate about your visit. We are able to bring lessons to schools with advanced notice and scheduling, as well as provide lessons on-site at the museum.

At this time there is no cost for our programming. Contact info@ellingtonhistsoc.org to schedule a program.
